2020-2021 5th Grade Solar System Project Directions

Project Assigned: 12/17/2020

Project Due: 1/19/2021 at 3pm

Part 1: Create a model of the Solar System

It is entirely up to you how you want to create your model.
If you need inspiration, search online for ideas.
Make sure you follow the directions above to create a model that is accurate in size, color, and details.

Part 2: Label ALL planets in the Solar System

Each part of your solar system must be properly labeled.
Use the labels that we sent home in your December packets, or create your own.
You can re-print some labels here.

Here is an example:

Part 3: Research the basic facts of each planet

Part 3, Step 1: Complete the Solar System Research Guide in Google Classroom
Part 3, Step 2: Choose a “fun fact” about each planet to add to your model.

See the example below to give you an idea:

Part 4: Detailed research on a single planet

Choose ONE planet (NOT EARTH) to research more information about.
Then you will create a presentation in Google Slides (6-8 slides) to share your research with the class.
You should be choosing a planet to research and sharing lots of information about that planet and the history of the planet.
Attach your Google Slides here.

Here are some examples:

Part 5: FlipGrid showing off your project

You will upload a 2 minute FlipGrid video showing off your project and sharing your design with the class.
You can see some examples of this here.
Submit your FlipGrid here.

This is a big project, with a lot of parts, and it is worth a major part of your science grade. Don’t wait until the last minute to work on this project! Get started now and ask for help if you need it. If you have any questions or need help, ask Mr. Sasse during Homework Help on Zoom or send a ClassDojo message.
