Hello Families! Here’s our weekly newsletter.
Today we took our Topic 3 math test on multiplication basics. For the next few weeks, we will be focused on multiplication and division with decimals. These are known to be very challenging for students, and it is important that students who are not fluent in their math facts and times tables practice them every night to improve their accuracy. Dollar Tree and Target both sell multiplication flash cards your child can use at home to practice. There are also online games and videos they can use to help practice.
We began Unit 2 of our new Benchmark Reading program this week. For the next two weeks, we will be reading excerpts from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. We also are starting our first book report, please make sure your child is choosing a biography to read at home as we get ready for our biography book report. More details about the project can be found here.
We are currently learning about food chains and food webs and where living things get their energy from. Our first science project will be coming up in the next few weeks, stay tuned.
We continue learning about the history of slavery in the United States, as it ties into our Benchmark Reading. We are also learning about major historical figures such as Harriet Tubman and Dred Scott. Finally, we continue our focus on the 50 states and capitals as well.
The move-a-thon is coming up on November 1st!
Have a great weekend everyone! 🙂
